As a single dad with their three younger kids still living at home, they wanted to do something WITH them, rather than just do everything FOR them. They had been building terrariums as a hobby ever since 1970 when they were a young hippie down in Laguna Beach, California. So, they thought, “Why not open a terrarium shop together?” It took a few years to get it going, but eventually they were able to turn their hobby into a dream-come-true business. At Roosevelt’s Terrariums they “do well for themselves by doing good for others.” In practice that means that “doing good for others” always comes before “doing well for themselves,” but it is amazing how faithful God is to allow the profits they need to appear just as they need them.
