At 14, they discovered rock ’n’ roll and punk, and everything clicked. It was the first time they saw people expressing their individuality unapologetically — through their hair, clothes and art. They thought to themselves those were their people and who they wanted to be. They started upcycling secondhand clothing, designing their own outfits, and cutting and coloring their own hair. By 16, they had built a DIY hair studio in their parents’ garage while finishing high school and attending beauty school.
